our volunteers are the most important

Our volunteers are a fundamental for our team and we´re pleased to work alongside them. Therefore, we offer our volunteers a lunch break (with fruit, sweet bread and chocolate milk) and a staff´s t-shirt.

Getting to know all of our volunteer staff is essential to our festival values.

Requirements to participate with us:

  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Participate for a period of 4 hours
  • Have coordinated experience and supervising the assembly of an exhibition, in this case the day of the dead offering
  • Have excellent organizational skills before and during an event
  • Ability to handle multiple activities at once under pressure
  • Follow different groups of people during the event.
  • Have good interpersonal skills, preferably be bilingual (English-Spanish)
  • Be a point of communication with the Day of the Dead Committee as needed
  • Direct individuals in specific tasks of each activity
  • Support and guide the participants of the activities
  • Coordinate the volunteer schedule with the volunteer coordinator during the two days of the event

If you are a parent

  • Teaching about Mexican traditions to younger generations is our responsibility, so we proudly guide parents through collective work
  • If you come with your children, you can work only a 2-hour shift
  • Also, you can take home sweet bread to enjoy with the rest of the family

During the Day of the Dead festival, volunteers can help the facilitators in the workshops offered to visitors, but there are also other activities where they can apply their skills and have a more active participation to coordinate the different exhibitions that are presented.

The coordinator will be reaching out to the community to invite them to participate with an altar demonstration as they are used to set it up in their communities or hometowns.

Everybody is welcome to bring a picture or an object that can be placed to honor the memory of their loved one. The volunteer in charge will receive and place the objects of the participants in the altar.
Stage manager

Stage Manager will be the point person to guide performers to make sure that the program flows smoothly working with volunteers and other key point people throughout the event.
Volunteer coordinator

The volunteer coordinator will be responsible for working at the art workshops and stations, to answer questions and making sure volunteers are fully supported and guided with information through all aspects of the event.
Lectures and presentations coordinator

Presentation coordinator will have a central role guiding and moderating presentations, also, supporting the speakers.

The performers coordinator will be reaching out to the artistes’ community to invite them to participate in music, dance, or performance presentations with the theme of the day of the dead. She will coordinate the program schedule and technical support with Seattle Center prior and during the two days event with the assistance of MCs.
